Kosovo: Serbs beaten by "off duty police"

ČAGLAVICA -- A Serb man and his son were assaulted this morning by off
duty members of the Kosovo police, KPS, reports say.

A bus driver, identified as Igor Arsić, and his father Vido, were taken
to a police station in Priština along with 40 passengers traveling on
the bus.

KiM Radio reports that the incident started as a van with "Kosovo
license plates" blocked the bus on the outskirts of Priština.

The driver tried to maneuver around it when two KPS members, with no
explanation or warning, wearing badge numbers 9383 and 8285 – reportedly
off duty at that point – took him and his father out of the bus, threw
them on the ground and started beating them.

The radio reports that Igor Arsić was then handcuffed and taken to the
police station in the Priština neighborhood of Kupusište to make a
statement.

Some time before 09:00 CET both men and the passengers were set free and
the bus continued en route Kosovska Mitrovica.

KPS spokesman in Priština Arber Beka could not comment on the incident
"because he is on vacation"; while his deputy, Sambrije Kamberi, was
unavailable.
