UK: Ex-Bosnian leader faces extradition
London, 5 July (AKI) - A London court on Monday began hearing a request from Serbia for the extradition of former Bosnian president, Ejup Ganic, who is accused of war crimes. Ganic was arrested at Heathrow Airport on a Serbian warrant on 1 March. He was set free on 300,000 euros bail but was ordered not to leave the country until the final court ruling. Serbia issued a warrant last December for the arrest of Ganic and 18 other Bosnian officials for allegedly ordering the massacre of Serbian soldiers who were withdrawing from Sarajevo in May 1992, despite a safe passage agreement. According to Serbian sources, 42 soldiers were killed, more than 50 others were wounded and another 200 were taken prisoner. Ganic has denied the charges and said the accusations against him were politically motivated. He also criticised British authorities for allegedly granting a favour to Serbian police. Ganic, who was acting Bosnian president at the time of the attack, argued that he was exonerated in two earlier hearings. A Serbian war crimes prosecutor opened the hearing on Monday, which is expected to last five to 10 days. He was expected to begin questioning witnesses on Tuesday. Both sides are planning to present several witnesses in the court http://www.adnkronos.com/AKI/English/Politics/?id=3.1.640753043
