1. Samoa Wins:

South Pacific Games representatives have chosen Samoa to host the
2007 games. Delegates voted 27/16 in favour of Samoa over the other
country nomination from New Caledonia.The present mini games re
underway on Norfolk Island with Fiji, PNG and Samoa dominating the
overall medal count.


2. Fighting Corruption:

Seventeen Asian and Pacific governments, including five from the Pacific
Islands, have endorsed a regional action plan to fight corruption.

It came at the Third Annual Conference of the Asian Development Bank
(ADB)/Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
Anti-Corruption Initiative for Asia-Pacific. Pacific Islands governments
endorsing the action plan were Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea,
Samoa, and Vanuatu. Niue which is still blacklisted is not named as
having endorsed the initiative.

The action plan provides for a comprehensive set of actions which
governments will take to:

- develop effective and transparent systems for public service;

- strengthen anti-bribery actions and promote integrity in business
  operations;

- and support active public involvement.

More than 150 people participated in the meeting, hosted by the Japanese
