It's a full size PCMCIA slot, and Newton OS only supports linear
flash & SRAM memory cards
(Does anybody know if there is a way to use DRAM cards (I expect not))

NiCD = Nickle Cadmium battery - older style recharbeable battery.
they come in AA size & will power the newton.
NOTE: NEVER THROUGH NiCd BATTERIES IN THE TRASH THEY MUST BE RECYCLED
BECAUSE THEY CONTAIN CADMIUM .
NiMH = Nickle metal hydride battery. newer style recharbeable, more
environmentally benign (ie not so toxic that several countries have
banned them, the way they have NiCd)
either one is fine, as long as it is AA size, but bear in mind that
1) max voltage out is usually 1.2 volts per AA battery, versus 1.5
for a disposable alkiline battery. Newton doesn't care much, it will
run fine, but the 'charge meter' will never show full on the 110
2) typical capacity for a NiCd = 1100 mAh (ie milliAmp-hours), and
for a NiMH = 1600 mAh, while a generic alkiline disposable has 2400
mAh of capacity
3) NEVER mix diffrent types of batteries.
