| Hello everybody,

|
| We now have to migrate the data to an NfSen installation based on

|
| Migrating, i.e. copying the flowdata itself (nfcapd.*) shouldn't be a
| problem from what I understand, but IIRC the RRD format has changed.
|
| Most profiles can simply be added again and NfSen should take care of
| everything. But how about the RRDs for the live profile?
|
| ./nfsen -r live
|
| won't do it because it doesn't seem to rebuild the RRDs anymore. Why BTW?

The reason for that was, because people tend to play with options, and
destroyed all RRD graphical data. The very reason for rebuilding is to
re-sync the stats bookkeeping if disks get broken, or the system got junked
up for any reason. But RRD data is in fact never affected. So I decided to
leave it in place, and only rebuild the profile without the RRDs. I should
consider to add an optional switch, allowing to rebuild also the graphic
data,
which in turn allows to import data.

|
| Going through the README provided in the NfSen sources, it is suggested
| to leave the job to install.pl.

It's best to let install.pl do the job. It takes care of all required
updates.
It's not only the RRD but also the profile.dat files need to be updated for
the
new channel based architecture, old files get deleted, all profiles get
rebuilded
and so on. But this is done only if required, depending on from which level
of NfSen you upgrade. From 1.2.4 it's the full program, from various
snapshots,
only part of the updates are executed. Therefore just copying files does
not work.

|
| But we already have an installation and simply want to get the old data
| into it. Is it perhaps enough to call SetupRRD() from NfSenRRD.pm?
|
| Or is the easiest way to copy the data, and then install the newer
| version of NfSen using install.pl?

Hope this helps.
