This probably does not apply to your issue, but I had a problem one time with nfsend dying intermittently during the week.
No errors in the log that suggested as to why.
Turned out that this was caused by the daily cron script that included automatic system updates. Whenever an update was available and installed, nfsend would die.
Just something to consider.
Regarding RRDTool 1.3, some other users have reported problems, hence my suggestion. Do not use 1.3 myself.

Permissions are fine, the file is created as the netflow user ok. I used an
RPM for rrdtool initially, but then went to source in an attempt to get this
working. No change. I am at rrdtool-1.3.4, not sure why that would casue
nfsend to die without any error in any log file.

I'll backlevel rrdtool unless there are other suggestions?

Have you checked permissions for the directory the RRD files are located in?
The nfsen user needs read/write access. Same user should be configured
in the Apache setup.
Also check your nfsen.conf, make sure everything is OK there.
If running RRDTool 1.3, go back to a 1.2 version, seems to work better.

Hope this helps.

Can no one help with this?

Subject: [Nfsen-discuss] New nfdump/nfsen server nfsend issue?

Built a new server on FC8 x86_64. Nfdump compiles fine with
--enable-profile, finds all RRD files ok and nfcapd runs, collects and
writes files to disk just fine.

The initial live profile RRD is built but then is never updated. It
looks like nfprofile is not running and nfsend keeps dying.

./nfsen status
NfSen version: 1.3
NfSen status:
Collector for 'Peering_ehprobe3' is running: 13546.
nfsen daemon: pid: [13548] died for unknown reason.

./nfdump: Version: 1.5.7 $LastChangedDate: 2008-02-21 10:50:02 +0100

Trying to modify the live profile in the web interface results in:
ERROR: nfsend socket_read() communication error: Connection reset by

Confirmed by this time nfsend has indeed died.

Any suggestions on what else I can check?
