Hi all,My Vespa tire blow out mystery is solved - I now know what did it. I finally got un-ticked off enough to go look. (haven't had time to take it to the dealership or anywhere for repair since I've been working 12 hour days) Somewhere between home and the corner at the end of our very long block, I picked up 2 good sized, what look like brand new, flat head wood screws. They punctured the tire within 1/2 or less from each other on the outside edge of my turn if that makes sense. I was turning left, the punctures are on the right. Today it was cool enough (mid-80's) to sit on the asphalt and take better looks at the underside of my 450. Traced cables and wires, read all the fine print stuck to the bike, warmed it up and checked the oil, checked the drive chain etc. Noticed that the drive chain needs cleaning and lubing, read my Clymer's and was glad to see the 450SC has the easiest procedure. Need to get chain lube. Next weekend will also be the air filter change out week (might help my morning starts).
Choke question. When I traced the choke cable to the mounting bracket on the carb I noticed that you can not see that the cable is pulling anything back and forth. Please excuse anything I say wrong, describe wrong, assume wrong etc as it's been oh like 30-35 years since I last restored cars and never motorcycles (Jaguars, Alfa's, a few Corvairs and some early Toyota's) with my Dad. Anyway, should I be seeing anything moving? I can't remember who suggested that my slow cold starts might be because the choke cable really isn't doing anything when I use it to aid starting in the morning if I need to and needs adjusting. I do know that it is working a bit because once I do get it started, it doesn't take long before I have to step the idle down by returning the choke pull out thing to the seated position. Usually just long enough to go back to house and grab my jacket and helmet and its warmed up ready to go. Any other thoughts then to my slow/cold takes for ever to catch startup problem? I've read the troubleshooting section of the Clmers's book but thought maybe someone out there has had the very same experience and can pinpoint something. thanks in advance. On another note, since the Vespa is out of commission for bit and it is what I run all my errands like grocery shopping and the hardware store on, I am in need of some saddle bags. I've been looking at the Chase Harper Cruisers online. Anyone out there use them on a 450? Or any other suggestions of things you like in that size range? Thanks everyone!! Susan p.s. some of the local trees are just starting to change color. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group.
