Stef:

These old tanks can develop pin holes along the bottom. Mine started
leaking a few weeks after I bought it. My one pin hole turned into 30
when I removed the paint. You can look for a used tank on line but
may end up with the same problem down the line unless you get a really
clean tank. I repaired my own tank and the following is what I did.

Sand the tank down and check for pin holes. Several of my holes were
big enough to push a several tooth pics through once all the rust was
removed so I sealed all the out side holes with two part epoxy ( JB
Weld). Then I sealed the inside with KBS coatings. KBS is a three
part system, cleaner, primer, sealer. I then sanded and repainted the
tank and bought new decals from CBdecals. JB weld is a just a few
bucks, but the decal set was around $80.00. I paid to have it painted
and clear coated along with the front fender for $100.00. I added an
in line fule filter just in case. A used tank can cost about the same
or more depending on condition.

A few years back I took and old rusty tank from a differnt bike (S3
400) with no holes to a radiator shop that acid washed it and sealed
the inside with epoxy. Best of luck...
