Considering the high revs the engine attains, I would definitely put it back
also.  I think it would keep oil slinging into the sump from being
aerated, which would thereby reduce the effectiveness of the oiling of critical
components - like the crank, mains, rods, - actually, all of the fast moving
parts of the engine.
Bubbles in the oil as it circulates is not good...

Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: oil pan baffle

Sounds like it is a windage tray.  I am not a mechanic and someone in the know
should respond, but I would disassemble and install it.  The engineers put it
in for a reason.

I hate when I do things like that.

I had a small leak around the oil pan on my 86 CB700 so I removed the
pan and replaced the gasket. I didnt realize that after reassembling
the pan and pipes I had forgotten to replace the small baffle plate
inside the oil pan. To anyone in the know, how critical is the baffle
plate for the oil circulation? Should I disassemble and restart?
please help with advise?
