Only place it could leak is from is an O ring where the starter fits into the
engine. When in doubt, pull it out. Disconnect the battery and the lead at the
starter, remove two bolts that hold the starter and pull it out. I've never
seen one leak but there is always a first time. Have you cleaned out the drain
tube from the air box lately ? If they backup in the tube, you get a high
crankcase pressure and... leaks. If you are really cautious, clean the engine
and go for a short ride and check for where the leak originates from. I always
thoroughly clean a mess before starting any repair. Since oil migrates quickly,
it might be coming form somewhere else.

hello everyone,
Good morning. My name is Dan Trongone and I live in the NYC tri-
state area. I have a '84 cb700 with 24,000 on the clock. it is my
first bike and it rides awesome. yesterday, I noticed oil leaking from
the behind the starter. has anyone else had this problem? I bought the
bike last fall for 1600 and put about 600+ dollars for a new clutch
plates, steel plates, clutch springs, gaskets, clutch master cylinder,
head cover gasket, oil filter, and new fluids. The bike starts and
runs religiously.
take care and I hope all is well,
Dan T
