The speedo drive is supposed to "key in" or rest behind the fork lug. That
prevents it from rotating with the wheel. ALSO, there is a keyed drive to align
in the wheel. Failure to execute this properly will cause the speedo drive
cable / wiring (either) to be damaged and / or the speedo indication to be in
error. Lotsa' ways to screw up. There's a whole lot more to proper front wheel
instalation. Like spacing the calipers, etc. Most people don't bother or care.
Too bad.

I recently installed a new axle, wheel bearings and speedo gear
housing (see "The Relative Bearing Saga"), and noticed, after the
fact, that the manual calls for aligning a projection -- a lug, if you
want to call it that -- on the speedo gear housing, with a similar one
on the inside of the left fork leg.

I didn't do that at the time because it didn't make sense.  Aligning
the two seemed like it would misalign the brake disc and the caliper
by a 1/8" - 1/4".

So I rotated the speedo lug slightly so that it rests behind the lug
on the fork leg.   Everything's torqued to spec, including the caliper
bolts and seems to be working fine.

But I'm curious.  Is the instruction in the manual a misprint?  Or am
I overlooking something?
