It's not sliding the fork tubes, it's twisting them in the clamps. Try to grasp
this; if the tubes are flexed ( I think so) as you twist them in the clamps the
bottom will scribe a circle instead of spinning on axis and there will be a
place in the rotation that the tube gets tight to turn. . While this may be a
very small circle, it can be useful in re-aligning the problem you have. Why ?
Because it is the problem. We'll get into that later. Yes, the axle nut is
right hand thread. If you're trying to remove it with the wheel off, it can be
hard to do. Slip it back into the fork clamps and tighten the head side clamp
and then twist off the nut. I loosen the axle before removing the wheel from
the fork. The wheelbase spec is 58.5 not 59.5" How did you get an extra inch ?
Does that make you think ?

Dennis:

Calipers working fine, pins still have grease and slide smooth
(calipers cleaned and pins greased when I did the fork seals last
year)
Brake pads at 50% look fine no unusual wear
No problems with fork brace or fender
Wheel mounted correctly
Forks slide in an out smoothly
Cant get axle nut loose to remove axle from wheel. Is it standard
thread left loosy?
Axle has no play
Checked wheel base and it measure 59.5 inches (axle center to axle
center).

What next?
