I couldn't find all of the 'what caused this' series of potential
accidents on a motorcycle here on Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers. I think
this one is #9 and I didn't expect to have any others to add after #8.
This is an easy one. The highway where this happened is a two lane
paved state highway with little traffic. The CHP (Caifornia Highway
Patrol) may cover it every week or so. It ascends to the west to 5200'
from 3500' in a 4% grade or more, in most places it is a straight road
but with occasional dips. Last week I pulled out on this highway from
a dirt side road and slowed to adjust my mirrors on my new (used) 83
CB650SCB. There were no vehicles in sight. This particular side road
enters at a dip with visibility in both directions of about 1/8th
mile. The speed limit on the highway is 65 mph and this is often
abused by drivers. How is it that a driver coming downhill in a
pickup misses me by inches and why was it my lucky day that I didn't
die?
