Yeah, I don't think it would be nearly as easy on the 650. I also had a 1983 650 that I purchased new and I installed the factory rack on it. As I remember it, there was a pretty substantial amount of hardware in the kit. A backing plate under the fender liner mount and support brackets that came from there to the rack itself. I think it took me close to an hour to install it, but it was definitely solid when I finished.
