The bits inside the petcock can dry out and leak too, or the mating surfaces
can give up. Sometimes just tightening it down a touch or sliding it back
and forth between On and Off to find the one position where it doesn't leak
will work. They aren't that hard to tear down and clean though if you take
your time. I'd wait until your rebuild kit comes in and fix it right.
