For $2400+, I would look into a custom rack instead. It would take a
lot of biking to justify that cost. Actually, you could buy a $500 car
and call yourself ahead.

Knowing that you can carry another person on the back and a gear only
weighs a fraction of that, I wouldn't worry too much about putting
that weight on the back, especially if a custom rack attaches properly
to the bike frame.
