*I have a 1985 650 that had a timing chain rattle, so opened it up and cleaned *the tensioner. When I reinstalled the cam shafts the exhaust cam shaft would not line up exactly with the intake cam(the up and intake marks); is this normal?. The exhaust cam is ever so slightly leaning in toward the intake cam. After I started it ran like crap and backfires terribly. It was the first time I pulled an engine and I cannot get the exhaust to seal into the manifold. Would the performance issue stem from the exhaust leak or from the cams not lining up?
When I was working on the cam alignment I had trouble turning the cam and I may have damaged a valve, would this be a cause. Does anyone have advice as to where I should start looking?
