The starter circuit and the ignition are two separate systems.

Before you dig into the ignition (spark plugs, etc) system take a moment to
thoroughly clean both ends of the starter supply cable, the engine ground
strap/wire, and the starter relay end of the signal wire from the starter
switch. It's cheap, quick, and will cure a minor litany of electrical woes
in most circumstances.
