I've tried it both ways, disconnecting the boots is definitely the harder
way due to the inaccessibility of the allen bolts between the center
cylinders. Graham's method with the spray lubricant and a pry bar works. In
the absence of a pry bar straddling the bike and wiggling the carbs up and
down while pulling back as hard as you can also gets them loose too. A
ratchet strap will help you snug them up during reassembly.
