I have a stage 2 jet kit along with a KN air filter. It all comes out of a Mac
4-1 exhaust. The Mac is a very cheap exhaust. It will rust after a couple of
years. The Vance n Hines is a better investment. The Macs have a removable
baffle which is held on by only one screw. It's a very primitive design. With
the baffle removed, the bike does sound good except when running on the highway
for a while. Then it's just annoying. With the baffle removed I do feel a power
increase in the bike. To me it's noticable. For track days, or other goofiness
I would recommend the baffle removal. But not for everyday use. Fuel economy
will also greatly suffer with that setup.

I was looking at different nighthawks on YouTube and heard some with the
baffles removed. They sounded neat

Your correct. You can typically get more performance from a stock bike with
modifications.

While I am not voting for removing baffles or even worse a straight pipe, I
don't think the factory setup is for optimal performance. In fact, most
Japanese bikes come pretty lean from factory to meet emissions regulations.
Rejetting and adjusting the carbs will give you better performance even with
the stock exhaust. Allen used to spend a lot of time on this, and I believe his
750 was the best tuned bike I had ever ridden.

Yeah! It's pretty much like a Honda Civic, open it up, make it loud. Jetting
and opening exhaust does not add HP, you are moving the power band. You have
to do internal engine mods to add HP.

I agree do what you want, but it's a waste of time and screws up a bike that
was already dialed in by the factory for optimal performance.
