I can't remember the last time I used a helmet lock, but I have used it to lock the D-ring on the strap to my motorcycle. I figure that if anyone wants to cut the strap to steal my cheap smelly helmet and render it useless (unable to fasten), he can have it. Usually, if I'm not going to wear or take my helmet indoors, I'll strap it to my motorcycle with a bungee net. More often than not, I use my helmet lock as an anchoring point for a bungee net.
