Yes, especially with mixing ambien light & flash work.

No way to fool the F5/F90x/F70 to think that the mounted MF lens is a D
lens. The MF lens has no CPU contacts.

I don't know. Technically, I feel that this is possible, because AF lens has
CPU contacts as AF-D lens'. But it may not be strategically possible for
Nikon to allow such upgrade to be performed.

I believe that there are no difference in the optical formula of MF, AF or
AF-D for the comparable lenses (such as 105 MF micro, 105 AF micro or 105
AF-D micro). The difference lies in the exposure calculation, between
Center-Weighted for MF, Matrix for AF and Matrix 3D for AF-D. But if you're
like other professional photographer that use extensive exposure bracketing,
then the difference between exposure calculation methods is offset by the
bracketing, and you may stay with your trusted F4.

The Matrix 3D is showing its usefulness if your subject is always changing
in split-second (such as wedding or photojournalism), where there are no
time to do bracketing. Matrix 3D has nothing to do with the optical quality
of your lenses, whether it is Non-AI, AI, AIS, MF, AF, or AF-D.
