One person has suggested in the Digest that slightly dismounting the lens
(i.e., pressing the lens release button and turning the lens until the
contacts are no longer aligned) can give you DOF on an N60. The problem with
this method is that, assuming you do nothing else, the lens will always
revert to f/22 (or the smallest aperture), because that's what you have to
set on the aperture ring when the lens is mounted on the camera. Thus, the
proper steps are:

1. Move the aperture ring on the lens to the f/stop you want to preview.
Ignore the warnings the camera now gives you.
2. Press the lens release button and carefully twist the lens until the
aperture closes fully (i.e., the view doesn't get any darker).
3. After previewing, remount the lens.
4. Reset the lens aperture to the minimum (typically f/22).

Of course, you have to do all of this without dropping the lens on the
ground and without touching the focus ring, both of which are hard to do
without the camera mounted securely on a tripod.
