Frederic,
I also have an FE2 and the lens I keep on it most often is my 35mm f2.8 AI.
It was a bargain and I find it is a real cracker - sharp, contrasty and
superbly built (feels better than my AIS lenses!). I have seen many articles
& items on the internet which suggest that this lens is not up to Nikon's
usual standard, so perhaps I was lucky and found a really good sample. I've
not used the 35/2 AFD so I can't comment on comparison. However, I do own a
new 24/2.8 AFD and I don't like the feel of it much - it feels too flimsy
and there is a slight lateral "give" with the focusing ring (which I hope
doesn't get worse). I wish I'd spent a bit more and ordered an AIS instead,
but it's OK, image quality is fine and it gives full functionality with my
F801s. Unless you're going to go AF, I'd recommend the 35/2.8 AI or AIS, the
35/2 AIS (you may have seen Roland Vink's recent comments on this one) or
the 35/1.4 AIS (with CRC, but quite big and expensive).
Best regards,
Jason.
