Nikon purposely blocked out the ability of the IX-Nikkors to be mounted 
on the standard 35mm SLRs. The main reason is because the IX-Nikkor 
lenses have been designed to have a covering power for the smaller 
16x24mm APS film. If these lenses would be used on 35mm cameras you would 
have fall off in the corners. As you mentioned, the IX-Nikkor lenses also 
have a potruding front element that prevents mounting on 35mm Nikons.

Keep in mind that the reason the IX-Nikkor lenses were introduced was to 
provide smaller optics with greater range that would more appropriately 
match the small size of the Pronea cameras.
