Robert: The problem is very simple: The F5 is not designed
to use Alkaline batteries, which your note describes you are
using.
The reason is very simple: Lithium batteries have a higher
voltage than Alkalines. The F5 was designed to use Lithium.
When the Lithium batteries are considerably worn, they are
still reading a higher voltage than the Alkaline do, when the
Alkaline are NEW.
Remember a few years ago, when Lithium was new, everyone
was concerened that the slightly higher voltage might damage
some existing cameras?
With brand new Alkaline batteries, the camera is reading
voltage that is the bare minimum for operation. The Alkaline
battery only has to drain the tiniest amount from new, before
the voltage reads too low.
Please try a set of Lithium batteries in your F5, and report
back to us on the results. I'm sure it will be different. You'll
also like the considerably reduced weight of the lithiums.
