I need to replace my old Sunpak 422D flash. It served me for almost 15
years before being severely injured in an accident with my 2-year old (the
dedicated module is fine). I have been happy with the Sunpak line and like
the fact that they are cheaper than the Nikon Speedlights. I am also
thinking of buying a second accessary flash to use with a TTL Slave. I am
considering a purchase of a Sunpak 355F and a Sunpak 444D along with a TTL
Slave (trying to decide between SU-4 and Ikelite's Lite-Link TTL Slave). I
may still try to repair the 422D. This raises several questions:

Will the Sunpak's 355F "focus assist beam" work with my N6006?

Does anyone have experience with Ikelite TTL Slaves (especially with Sunpak
flashes on the slave)? They apparently make a model specifically for Sunpaks.

According to Nikon's website, the SU-4 uses 'infrared communication to
control triggering and flash duration. Does this mean that only flashes
that emit infrared signals (e.g., AF assist) will trigger the slave? Will
a Sunpak TTL flash trigger the slave? Will the built in flash on my N6006
trigger the slave? I called Nikon but did not receive an answer.

Nikon SU-4 or Ikelite Lite Link? The SU-4 actually appears cheaper!

Anyone have experience using a Sunpak 444D with an N6006? Pros/cons

My budget my require the purchase of only one flash at this time. The 444D
has much more power than the 355F. Any other significant trade-offs I
should consider between the two? Which would other Nikon users recommend?

The tilt/swivel head on my 422D separated from the rest of the flash body
after my two year-old fell on my camera bag at a wedding. It appears to me
that the plastic casing of flash head and flash body would need to be
replaced. This incident was this flashes second significant injury having
been knocked off a table 4 years ago by my oldest son. I am not sure if
the electronics are okay because high-voltages scare me and I did not
attempt firing the flash after its encounter with my 2-year old. Should I
attempt to repair the 422D or should I just replace with the 444D?

Thank you for taking the time to read my questions. The sharing of your
thoughts, comments, and experiences are greatly appreciated.
