David Elfstrom remarked that the 24-120 AFD was a better performer
than the 24-50AFD in a recent digest. My experience is just the
opposite. I found the 24-120 soft at all but f8-11, especially at the
long end, lowish contrast and with marked distortion which varies
through the range. The 24-50 in my opinion is much sharper and
contrastier, admittedly with some distortion at 24mm. I have found
this lens a good substitute for my 24mm f2.8 AIS, but would not
consider the 24-120 a similar comparison.
Just my opinion.
