In fact, I think it only would work with cameras having a very basic
film loading mechanism (such as a FM or FM2). 

I bet most AF cameras won't behave in a very rigorous way without having
a regular film wound on the winding spool. Even my wife's Canonet, a
nice rangefinder camera about 30 years old, has a QuickLoading mechanism
which prevents the camera from firing before the film is correctly
loaded.
