I guess Canon sells more 500n/RebelG than Nikon sells F50/60. On the
other hand, one of the Nikon best-sellers is the F90x/N90s. While the
lower end consumer market is much bigger than the enthusiasts market, I
guess most people that submitted a picture to PP where true photo
enthusiasts.
I have no other explanation than that one.

I could understand why Nikon would be ahead in that market segment: look
at the prices of fixed focal lenses like the 180 2.8 or good zooms like
the 80-200 2.8 AF-D. Nikon is the only brand where these lenses are very
reasonably priced (see Minolta and Pentax, for instance). It is also the
brand with the widest second hand market enthusiasts are keen of. Pro
don't mind paying new stuff and mainstream consumer often don't even
consider buying a second lens in addition to their 28-something zoom.
OTOH, Canon has clearly an edge in both the lower end segment and the
very high end one.

Again, this is just a guess. Could someone working in a photo shop
confirm whether Nikon sells more F90x than Canon sells EOS5, for
instance? Or F100 than EOS3?

Nicolas.
