The recent post regarding equipment still in use may well be true. Although Canon may outsell Nikon, older Canons are less common. Obtaining repairs on older Canons is hard. I used AE1P's and A-1 from the early 80's until this year and just made the switch to Nikon. Although I was happy with the older Canon's, as problems developed, I was unable to obtain repairs or the repairs were not warranted as used parts were being used in the repair. I experienced metering problems on all my bodies as they aged. The lenses were in great shape though. When I considered the upgrading of bodies, I had the choice of old, used Canon equipment OR replace everything. As Canon had shown no desire to produce manual bodies with the FD lens mount, had repeatedly changed their lens mounts, (at least three times in 20 years), and I could not use the glass anywhere else, I opted to abandon the Canon system. Financially painful but I am well pleased. I acquired my first Nikon, N70, and loved it, as an intro to Nikon. My wife is now using that body and I just received a new F100. WOW. I am impressed. I think that Canon is more focused on "consumer products" and sells "things", i.e., planned obsolesence. I sense Nikon is more focused on photograohy. AFter all, the new digital camers from Nikon and Kodak use the Nikon F lens mount and Nikon still markets manual cameras.
