Hi,
Last Saturday I had the opportunity to play around with the F100 and the
new 35-135. It is true that the F100 features the 2 dial system. However,
I didn't feel too comfortable with it. The Nikon rep wasn't too
knowledgeable (I'm not gonna raise this topic again...), and therefore he
couldn't say if there's still the possibility of setting the aperture
using the ring on the lens. If not, what will future Nikkors look like? I
hope the A-ring won't disappear in the long term. Can anyone confirm that
the old-fashioned A-ring is still supported? Otherwise, what would I use
the left hand for :-)
Basically, the F100 seems to be a great camera. It just felt a little
strange when I fired the shutter. I'm used to the rock steady F4 body that
doesn't shake even a little bit when the shutter goes off. On the light
F100, however, you really feel the shutter slamming down (and even the
aperture when you push the DOF preview button).
One other point:
I asked the rep about how the Nikon silent wave lenses work. He said that
in a body like the F4, the internal AF motor works together with the
lense's SW motor in some way. He was unable to explain the difference
between the Nikon SW system and the C-Brand equivalent. Does anybody out
there know more on this? Does the internal AF motor really turn?
Cheers
Boris
