The problem with 3rd party lenses should not come as a surprise to
those who have listened to what Canon EOS owners have complained
about.  EOS owners know that as the electronics become more complex,
some of the 3rd party lenses are not 100% successfully reverse
engineered.  A 3rd party lens that worked great on an old Rebel or
EOS650 suddenly malfunctions on an EOS1 or other new body.  I suspect
the same thing may be happening to the Nikon versions of these lenses.
 This is another reason to wait at least 6 months before buying a new
model.  Hopefully, the 3rd party lens makers will get it right by then.
