While this question is somewhat Nikon oriented, I would appreciate off list
replies since the answers are personal and probably would be wasteful for
the list in general, so please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm struggling, trying to figure out where to go next with my camera
gear. I'm a part time photojournalist with a strong interest in sports.

I currently have the following:

Nikon F5, N90s, AF 24mm F2.8D, AF 50mm F1.8, AF 85mm F1.4D, AF 80-200 F2.8D
(old style), a Kenko 7 element 2X TC, SB-16, SC-17 sync cord, and a hand
full of misc parts (bouncers, filters, etc).

I have about $2,500 saved up for gear or pending in invoices that is ear
marked for gear.

I'm considering the following:

1. 300mm F2.8 AF-S
2. 80-200mm F2.8 AF-S
3. The two TC's to go with the above
4. The 28-70mm F2.8 AF-S
5. Portable Studio Strobes and a pocket wizard trigger (for illuminating
gyms and studio work)
6. CoolPix 950

The way I see it, the lack of lenses in the 28-70mm range is a limit. But
I either shoot at 24mm or with the 80-200 anyway. I've lived without it
and I can continue to, but I wonder if its hurting me more than I think.

The 300mm is critical if I want to shoot sports. But I'm only 60% of the
way there. I could continue to work and save up for it, but its at least a
couple of months away. I wouldn't have any money left for the TC's.

The 80-200 is my most frequently used lens. Having the AF-S with reliable
TC's would help me quite a lot (giving me a 300 F4 and a 400 F5.6 out of it
with no degradation of AF performance).

Or I could take the money and get the strobes and pocket wizard, and a
bunch of other little stuff.

Then there is the concept of getting a digital camera as a fun toy (not for
serious work, but something to just tinker around with).

What should I do?

Rob
