I have been using a Nikkor 35-70 f3.3-4.5 AF (non-D) lens on an FG
for a couple years without any problem. Recently I purchased an N70
and used the first roll of film (Kodachrome 64) to test it with what I
thought was a know good lens. I shot a grey card with the lens at
35mm wide open, f8 and shot fully down then repeated the process at
50mm and 70mm. The resulting slides looked like the lens was not
stopping down at all. f8 was overexposed and f22 or 32 were almost
completely washed out.
Before returning the camera, I decided to try the same test with
another lens just in case. I used a 50mm series E that had also
worked well on the FG and repeated the test. I also re-tested the
35-70 on the N70 and did the same test with both lenses on the FG.
This time the slides taken with the 50mm were perfect on both cameras,
the 35-70 was fine on the FG but still didn't seem to be stopping down
on the N70.
My question is, could the lens have some marginal problem with the
stop down lever? Might the FG be pushing the lever further than the
N70? Or is the problem more likely with the camera body?
        Any help would be appreciated.
