Hi Pascal,
I have a 85mm AF-D 1.8 lens and for the price you can't beat what it gives you in
picture taking value. It is razor sharp, so sharp that our grandchildren will be
talking about how sharp it is
For portraitures, I like it's focal length as it seems to give me the right distance
from my subject. If I am too far from my subject, I lose the intimacy that is
necessary to do really good portrait photographs. In addition, the 1.8 f/stop gives
me more creative license when setting depth of field and it's great in low-light
situations. I hope this helps.
