Hello Nikoneers.

Was anyone asking about the FP mode of the SB-26?

In the FP mode, the SB-26 fires a very fast series of flashes that is
synched to the shutter curtains slit. The shutter is made of two sets
of curtains. The first one covers the opening to the film plane, as
this curtain opens, the second curtain follows thus closing the
opening. This process, at shutter speeds slower than 1/250sec. gives
a wide slit to a fully open window due to the delay of the second
curtain's activation. As the shutter speed is increased, from 1/250
to 1/4000 sec.,as the first and second curtains move almost
simultaneously, the opening becomes a narrow slit that travels the
whole height of the window to the film plane.

Nikon recommends that the FP mode be used from 1/250 - 1/4000sec. to
assure even exposure. About FP1 and FP2, it seems that FP2 has a lower
output than FP1. The effective range is very limited though. It is
best to use it for very weak fill, ...just to get more distance. The
distance bar gives you an idea how strong the flash is and how far you
should be from the subject. And, you can't get more than two
consecutive shots with it. Recycling is to long for motordrive use,
even in Continuous Low.

Happy shooting.

Carlo
