Wrong! Your brand new highly acclaimed matrix metering would no longer
function and that ain't no different than using an FE2 or an F3 with
spot metering. Now don't get me wrong, both of those cameras are great
for what they are but, you buy an F100 for more. That sounds like
limited backward compatibility to me.

Ah, but these four manual focus lenses predate matrix metering (which I
don't use anyway, but that's beside the point). So I still maintain they'll
do everything they were designed to do but display the aperture in the
viewfinder. To take full advantage of the features of the F100, it is
indeed necessary to use those newer lenses designed to interface with the
current features. But my four manual focus lenses on an F100 will still do
just about all THEY were ever intended for.
