Last time, I didn't receive any replies on this, so allow me to try again.
I am not yet ready to step up to the commitment of a tripod. Although they
are vital, they are also bulky and add additional time such that I might be
more inclined to leave it behind. I'd like to tell myself otherwise, but
that's the reality at present.

That being said, I do realize the importance of a tripod and want to at
least start heading in that direction, but with a commitment that it smaller
and lighter, yet still brings me into the tripod world. Most tripod shots
will either be for long focal lengths or for macro shots.

Which brings me to my question...what would be a good monopod? Or is there
a mini-tripod or a more stable two-legged (bi-pod?) one that would do well
for me? Monopods sound convenient, but if they're no better than bracing on
one's arm, that won't solve camera shake too well, and for macro shooting it
may not be acceptable since the depth of field is so narrow to begin with.

What are my options? Keeping it compact and relatively lightweight (the
compactness being the more important factor) is really important to me so
that I'll be encouraged to take it with me.
