At the urgings of several readers of this list, 
I called Nikon USA, about the peeling on the
back of my N90.  The simply asked for my
serial number, and are sending me a new back.
They didn't ask for the old one, and they don't 
need a purchase receipt.  They don't care when
it was purchased.  

When I asked about the same problem on my MF26,
they advised me to send the multi-control back to them,
and they would replace the cover (not a user-replaceable
part).  Likewise, there will be no charge, and proof of
purchase is not needed.

They're making points with me!
