I have used the N2020, 8008s, both the N90 models and all the F's except the
F5, Canon F1n, T90, A2E and 620, Contax RTS3, and RX, Pentax Spotmatic F and
ES, Topcon Super DM, and Leica R3 and M2. I kept the Pentax's, the F2, and the
Canon F1n for emotional reasons -- I liked the feel and the sound. I am
currently trying the Contax RX. And they can have my F4 "...when they can pry
it from my cold, dead hands" as the NRA likes to say! The controls are where I
expect them to be, and do what I expect them to do. Is it perfect for me? No,
I miss the ease of bracketing and leader in/leader out rewind of the RX, the
silence of the A2E motor drive, the manual film advance of the Pentaxs', and
the Canon IS zoom I had was handy. I can use the manual rewind to leave the
leader out for my B&W, the exposure compensation control for bracketing (I'm
thinking of having the lock removed), and when quiet advance is really
important, I break out the F2. For old eyes, the built in adjustable diopter
of the viewfinder more of a help than even autofocus, which is a great
feature, but not the reason for being for the F4. I really like the F4's
ability, without modification, to use any Nikkor SLR lens ever made. There are
some real bargains available in the original F mount. I will probably trade
the Contax stuff on another F4 for backup when F4 parts are no longer
available. I like my F4 very much.
