I can't say I can "smell a Nikon from 100 yards away" but perhaps Kubrick
was noticing the distinctive smell (stench?) of Kodachrome film. I use
Kodachrome and love everything about it, except for it's odor when I'm
looking at slides on a lightbox. Even unexposed/undeveloped Kodachrome has a
distinctive smell.

I clipped this out of an article in the electronic version of USA Today
reporting the recent death of Stanley Kubrick. (a few weeks ago, I've
been busy) Apparently, he was a photographer before he made films.
"There is a sexiness to beautiful machines. The smell of a Nikon camera.
The feel of an Italian sports car, or a beautiful tape recorder. . . ."
Hey, I like the look, the weightiness, the fit and finish, the feel of
my Nikons... but the SMELL??!! Kubrick had a genius for imagery. but he
must have had one heck of a sense of smell as well. :) Roland>>>>>>
