Since some people asked for it:

I had the chance to play with the AF-S 28-70/2.8D in my local store the day
it arrived. I don't have optical experiences, just mechanical ones!

Maybe it was just this lens, but the zoom-ring was scraping, not moving
smoothly at all like you would expect from a 1500$ lens. The Tokina
28-70/2.6-2.8ATX pro II I tried two days earlier felt a lot better.
However the AF-performance seemed to be very, very nice on my father's
F-100. Since I personally still shoot with a F-601, I don't care about
AF-speed and so only two impressions stayed with me after testing the new
lens:
1. It's heavy (that's ok, I think)
2. It has a bad zoom-ring

Sorry for not applauding this lens. I might have, if I had seen its otical
performance.
