Since some people asked for it: I had the chance to play with the AF-S 28-70/2.8D in my local store the day it arrived. I don't have optical experiences, just mechanical ones! Maybe it was just this lens, but the zoom-ring was scraping, not moving smoothly at all like you would expect from a 1500$ lens. The Tokina 28-70/2.6-2.8ATX pro II I tried two days earlier felt a lot better. However the AF-performance seemed to be very, very nice on my father's F-100. Since I personally still shoot with a F-601, I don't care about AF-speed and so only two impressions stayed with me after testing the new lens: 1. It's heavy (that's ok, I think) 2. It has a bad zoom-ring Sorry for not applauding this lens. I might have, if I had seen its otical performance.
