paltry 90, but other than that what is it that makes it  such a good (and 
still manufactured) camera?>

The F3 offers interchangable finders. The F3's MD-4 motor does 5.5 fps,
whereas the MD-12 for the FM2 does under 4 fps. The F3 offers optional
aperture priority AE exposure, and TTL flash control. The HP finder offers
'high eyepoint' viewing. It has quartz timed shutter speeds, but is battery
dependent. The meter pattern on the F3 is 80/20, whereas the FM2n's is
60/40, so while they both advertise "center-weighted averaging patterns,
the F3's is more spot-like.
