I don't think people are knocking on N60/50. They are solid
cameras, no doubt. Nothing wrong with them. However, as with
any camera, they have their limitations and for the kind of
people who are active on the list, the particular limitations
are quite often relevant. The major limitations that come to
mind are

1. cannot meter with manual lenses (but they can be used)
2. no spot meter
3. 1fps (no need to be that fast, but at least I find 1fps very
       slow.)
4. no small AF zone
5. can't turn off DX (pushing is a pain)

N50/60 was *not* designed for people needing fine control, IMHO.
They are good at what they were designed to do -- take photos
casually. Less features has a plus side of having a streamlined
interface.

Since N70 - which overcomes all these shortcomings - is priced
not far from them, people hesitate to recommend N50/60 to the
kind of photo enthusiasts who are on this list. (admittedly with
a controversial interface, no need to discuss this aspect
again.)

In the current thread, the person had an *advanced* manual
camera so many people felt that the limitation 1. was severe,
which I quite agree with. On top of that, if you were using a
top of the line manual camera, it seemed highly unlikely that a
he would be happy with casual camera including its feel.
