Will there ever be an update of Nisus Classic for OS X? With the
announcement of the death of Classic when Apple moves to Intel, I'm
getting worried now. It's been the only Classic program I've had to
use with any regularity for some time now, and there is no program
with equivalent functionality to replace it.

But if it's really a doomed, lame duck, please let us know, and
suggest some options -- NW Express (in its current form) not being
one of them, since it's missing too many key features. And macros in
NW Classic are really easy to build, while in NW Express, the only
way to even get near it is with Perl (the language from hell), which
still doesn't address rich text functionality or markers.

I don't want to come to the end of the Classic line, and still not
have a means of doing what I need to do -- hopefully better than
keeping some ancient Mac until the end of time to run Nisus.

Don't expect a new version of NW - if there was ever to be an OS X version, we would have seen it long ago. Rather, they are rewriting from the ground up, and NWE is the current increment. It doesn't meet all my needs yet, either, so I'm still using NW under Classic.

However, you don't need to think about "ancient Macs". If you buy a new Mac before they phase out Power PC Macs, you'll still be able to run Classic. That should keep you going at least for four years, by which time the software landscape will no doubt have changed again quite dramatically!
