Amar Juice Center,Vile Parle
Amar
Juice Centre lives up to its name, and in that it’s a Mecca for all the
junk food lovers. Open till almost two in the morning, this shack
offers more than what its name claims. Take your pick from their (not
so) Italian pizza, hot dogs, frankies, juices, milkshakes; and all
within the scope of value for money.
Patrons swear by their
teekha tava pulao, the butter laden pav bhaji and grilled cheese
sandwiches; each bite of the latter bursts with molten cheese. People
are known to throng this place way past mid-night such that parking
becomes a hitch here. Eating within the close confines of the car is a
good option.
Through the day, you can spot this place by
teenagers thronging it from neighbouring colleges; the scenario however
drastically changes when the party animals get here much later.
Bharat Dairy and Juice Center, Charni Road
Bang
opposite the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, this juice center operates out of
a building under construction. One of the many food joints in this
locality to be open till pretty late, Bharat Dairy is fted for its
desserts and juices. Hand-made ice creams in a choice of flavours like
roasted almond, chocolate, custard apple, strawberry, black currant are
celebrated amongst many others.. For snacking you have the toast
sandwiches, dosas, pizzas, idlis or anything a junk lover can think of.
You must also not miss the fresh cream and fruit bowl, which serves
seasonal fruits, whipped together in satin smooth cream.
Bun-Maska, Churchgate
Right
outside the otherwise abuzz Churchgate station this Bun-Maska wala sets
up his stall quite late in the night. Frequented mainly by students who
burn the midnight oil before exams and party hoppers wanting to grab a
bite, this little stall is always eventful.
It
doles out the most refreshing cutting chai available in the vicinity.
You can pick from the bun maska (bread and butter) and brun maska
(bread, butter and sugar). The bread is soft and is lightly coated with
a thin layer of maska. Very easy on the pocket too.
Sigdi, Bandra
Situated
in a grimy lane, off Waterfield Road in Bandra, Sigdi is open to its
patrons way after midnight. It’s a suitable option for those who want a
real quick bite. It puts out a range of rolls and Chinese food. Pick up
the regular chicken and mutton roll - tender meat tossed in a spicy
gravy and rolled in soft tortillas.
You could also sample the
Sigdi special roll, that is filled with chicken pieces, cooked with a
Sigdi-special red and green chutney. There’s hope for the veggies too —
go for the paneer, mushroom or the vegetable roll that is stuffed with
a number of semi-cooked chopped veggies.
Nawab Seekh Paratha, Bhendi Bazar
This
unassuming place does not have much on its repertoire apart for the
famed kebab-parathas. Surprisingly it is enough to keep this place
bustling till almost three in the night. Spiced meat (chicken and
mutton) finely minced and threaded on skewers is heavily cooked and
served with soft and piping hot parathas.
It
is served with a distinctive chutney and onion rings that enhances the
flavour of the kebab-paratha. Sadly, they have almost nothing for the
vegetarians, not even paneer!
