We have heard of organic tea, food, and even clothes.. But,
ever heard of holistic fabrics? Yes, the first of its kind in India,organic
fabric with a healing touch is set to unveil. This fabric isbelieved to provide
relief from various diseases such as asthma, bloodpressure, arthritis, cardiac
problems, skin diseases, etc.
Bandrabased designer and personal stylist Sonia Mehra is gearing up tointroduce
the concept of holistic fabric in the city. Mehra elaborates,“The demand for
organic fabrics have gone up by leaps and bounds due toglobal warming and more
and more people are bending towardseco-friendly fabrics.” This unique fabric is
likely to hit the marketssoon and unlike most of the organic materials,
holistic fabric is notexorbitantly priced.
As
per Mehra, the first clinical trial to test the curative effect of the
herbal dyed handloom fabrics is done and the results were positive. The
second trial on the fabrics will be conducted shortly and after the
results confirms its health benefits; the fabric would receive a
certification of medicinal impact of herbal fabrics.
Unlikemost of the other organic textile stuff the usage of this fabric is
notconfined to Indian wear. One can also utilise this material to designwestern
outfits as well. Right from skirts, corsets, tunics, trousers,to salwar kameez,
all kind of attires can be designed out of thisfabric. Besides being
eco-friendly, it also promises to give good styleand fit, which makes it
comfortable as well as trendy.
Mehraclaims that the holistic fabrics are good for the skin as it isherbally
dyed. Even though the colour range is not quite wide, thefabric will be
available in a variety of colours. “I do not have acomplete range of colours
since the fabric is dyed in herbal colours,which are available in natural
shades. The fabric will have hues likered, light red, light brown, light gray,
dark yellow, turmeric, black,and blue, etc,” says Mehra.
Knownfor her celebration of the exuberant, Mehra has made her mark in
thefashion circuit with her exclusive designs and her ability to changewith the
times while keeping her designs pure has not gone unnoticed.“I am also
currently toying with the idea of designing other readymadegarments, curtains,
bed spreads, quilts, pillow covers and towels withthe herbal dyed fabrics and
yarns,” adds Mehra.
Mehra
feels that understanding the need of customers and markets is very
important and her core strength lies in designing and
developing garments from herbally dyed textile material according to
the requirements of the customers.
