Sounds more like the voice of experience to me.

I pointed out the problems with certs years ago, and the example from
Microsoft is always the best.  On one hand, they would tell developers
"get certified and stand out from the crowd".  On the other hand, they
would tell the suckers who buy their software "buy Microsoft stuff, we
have a freaking army of certified technicians to help you".  Those two
statements are contradictory.

When someone comes to me and starts talking about their
certifications, I can only assume they have no actual accomplishments
in their professional life, and so have to tell me about their
education.  That's fine if you're 20 years old.
