Are you bent or required on Nagios? Nagios is power horse for sure, but a
tough dog to master (and I don't own that dog).  There are a couple of
other GPL based alternatives that might suit your purposes that (to me)
are much easier to deal with *IF* they will do what you need:

Zenoss (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zenoss)

Zabbix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zabbix)

Both appear to still be in some degree of active development.

I haven't messed with Zenoss yet but Zabbix seemed useful. I think Nagios
has a web front end too that I have never messed with.

Just tossing these out here FWIW.

Yes, Andrew.  I am setting up a new instance of Nagios Core 3.4.3 on an
Ubuntu 10.04 server, from source instead of packages.
